Daniel Sheras, PsyD, is a licensed psychologist who has treated children, adolescents, and adults in private practice in the Triangle since 2011. He has extensive experience providing psychological treatment to individuals, couples, families and groups. Trained in the full spectrum of mental health disorders, Dr. Sheras specializes in evaluating and treating anxiety, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as depression and ADHD.
Dr. Sheras has experience working with all age groups and with a wide variety of diverse populations and has a particular interest in working with teenagers and young adults as they navigate major life transitions associated with those stages. In his work with children, he often collaborates with parents/families, school staff, and physicians to understand and assist at multiple levels of the child’s environment. With adults, Dr. Sheras has extensive experience treating parenting stress, relationship/marital issues, ADHD, and postpartum depression and anxiety. He focuses on building strong rapport with his patients at the onset of therapy so that they feel comfortable and empowered to work toward their goals. Dr. Sheras believes in utilizing evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in his interpersonal, solution-focused approach to treatment.
Dr. Sheras earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and went on to earn his doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. As part of his graduate training, Dr. Sheras provided psychological assessment and multiple modalities of psychotherapy in clinical settings such as a high school resource center, college counseling center, youth residential treatment center, and therapeutic group home. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Child and Family Development Center (CFDC) at St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, where he provided clinical services to children, adolescents, and young adults in both school and hospital-based outpatient settings and received specialized training and certification in evidenced-based models for treating adolescent depression and childhood trauma. Dr. Sheras has also worked extensively in the therapeutic foster care system, and his graduate research involved investigating the practices and qualities of foster parents in a therapeutic foster care agency.
Dr. Sheras is a member and has previously served on the board of the North Carolina Psychological Association (NCPA) and has presented at several professional conferences on a variety of topics, including effective teaching strategies for students with ADHD and childhood depression.
